Murder is afoot, and it’s up to you to uncover the truth! In this game, every participant takes on a unique character, each with their own secrets, motives, and connections. Before the game begins, you’ll receive four emails in the days leading up to your gathering. These emails will contain crucial details about your character, your backstory, and what you know about others. To ensure you don’t miss any important information, we recommend adding our email address to your trusted list, as some emails might end up in your spam folder.
How to Play
When you and your fellow players gather, your goal is to figure out who committed the murder, how it was done, and why. However, this isn’t an interrogation—there’s no need to grill your fellow guests relentlessly. Instead, embrace your character, interact naturally, and use subtle questioning, observations, and keen attention to detail to piece together the mystery.
- Stick to the truth! In order to keep the game going, it is important that you never lie. There is only one exception to this rule: the murderer is allowed to lie only when asked direct questions that would expose them (e.g., “Are you the murderer?” or “Were you at the crime scene at the time the murder was committed?”). Aside from this one exception, honesty is key to solving the mystery.
- Don’t reveal all your secrets too quickly! Think like your character—would they readily admit to something embarrassing, dangerous, or career-ending? If not, find clever ways to steer the conversation, misdirect, or withhold certain truths. You may not be allowed to lie, but you are allowed to redirect the conversation.
- Choose your strategy wisely. You can keep key details to yourself, share them freely, or form alliances to trade information—but beware! Trusting the wrong person might cost you valuable insights or even lead suspicion to fall on you.
Your mission is to work together to unmask the culprit before the night ends. And for the best experience, keep your character secret until the game begins—mystery and intrigue make it all the more thrilling!
Good luck, and may the best detective (or the most cunning murderer) win!
Tips & Tricks for the Host
As the host, you’re responsible for setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. While the game will unfold naturally, here are some ways to enhance the experience:
1. Set an End Time for Accusations
To keep the game from dragging on too long, establish a clear time when everyone will officially make their final accusation. This builds suspense and ensures the game reaches a satisfying conclusion.
2. Schedule Suspicion Check-Ins
Plan one or two moments during the game where everyone takes turns sharing who they suspect the most and why. This encourages discussion, helps players organize their thoughts, and might even bring hidden clues to light.
3. Create a Thematic Atmosphere
The right setting can make a huge difference! Dim the lights, add some candles, play soft background music, or use props that match the theme of your chosen game.
4. Keep the Game Moving
If conversation stalls or players aren’t sure what to do next, you can step in with a general prompt, such as:
- “Has anyone noticed anything suspicious about their fellow guests?”
- “Does anyone have a reason to suspect [Character Name]?”
- “Has anyone noticed a fellow guest acting strangely lately?”
5. Encourage Role-Playing
Remind players to act as their character rather than just discussing clues. The more immersive the role-playing, the more fun everyone will have!
6. Enjoy the Mystery!
As the host, you don’t need to control everything—just let the story unfold. Some groups will be more theatrical, others more analytical, and both are equally fun. Just sit back and watch the drama unfold!
With these tips in mind, you’re ready to host a thrilling murder mystery night!
